{"id":733,"date":"2014-07-21T15:41:08","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T19:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/?p=733"},"modified":"2014-07-22T08:01:07","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T12:01:07","slug":"tracking-progress-june-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/2014\/07\/tracking-progress-june-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Tracking Progress: June 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Tracker-2014-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-735\" src=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Tracker-2014-06.jpg\" alt=\"Tracker-2014-06\" width=\"773\" height=\"669\" srcset=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Tracker-2014-06.jpg 773w, https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Tracker-2014-06-300x259.jpg 300w, https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Tracker-2014-06-619x535.jpg 619w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our monthly summary of Vision Zero progress in Queens appears above. \u00a0Some noteworthy observations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>June saw a slight slowdown in the pace of pedestrian safety enforcement actions in Queens, relative to May&#8217;s more intensive focused enforcement efforts\u00a0in many precincts. \u00a0 Failure to Yield to Pedestrians saw a particularly sharp dropoff in enforcement.<\/li>\n<li>Year-to-date, enforcement actions for red light running continue to be up slightly since last year, and enforcement actions for speeding and failure to yield to pedestrians continue to be up significantly.<\/li>\n<li>Queens is leading the city as a whole in terms of reducing pedestrian\/cyclist injuries and fatalities. \u00a0 It is also leading the city as a whole in terms of increasing enforcement against speeding. \u00a0 Queens is lagging the city in terms of reducing vehicle occupant injuries and fatalities, and in enforcing failure to stop at signals, failure to yield to pedestrians, and driving while using cell phones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As before, we don\u2019t recommend drawing strong connections at this stage about changes in injury rates. Vision Zero is about changing the culture, and enforcement, education, and engineering changes will take time to translate into safer behavior. Also, the precincts are doing a lot of hard work on driver education that doesn\u2019t translate directly into tickets issued.
