The Move NY Fair Plan is a proposal to address chronic funding shortages to keep our transit and roadway systems in a state of good repair, and to begin investing in much-needed improvements in the city by establishing\u00a0tolls on the city’s\u00a0free East River Bridges and at 60th Street in Manhattan. \u00a0A key feature of the plan is that it would reduce tolls by more than 40% on other key bridges used by Queens residents, including the RFK Bridge, the Throgs Neck Bridge, and the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. \u00a0More information on the plan is available on the Move NY website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Make Queens Safer has been\u00a0following this proposal with great interest because of its potential to reduce dangerous through traffic on neighborhood arterials in Western Queens, including\u00a0Northern Boulevard, Roosevelt Avenue, and Queens Boulevard. \u00a0Currently, many\u00a0vehicles use these routes\u00a0to reach\u00a0the free Queensboro Bridge, in order to avoid tolls on\u00a0the Queens-Midtown Tunnel and\u00a0the RFK Bridge. \u00a0Under the Move NY Fair Plan, the incentive to do this will be eliminated, helping improve conditions\u00a0on these dangerous streets.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Jackson Heights Jewish Center, Make Queens Safer will be co-hosting a community forum on the Move NY Fair Plan, with Friends of Diversity Plaza, the Jackson Heights Green Alliance, Jackson Heights Beautification Group, and the New Visions Democratic Club,\u00a0as well as Councilmember Daniel Dromm and State Senator Jose Peralta. \u00a0Come hear a presentation on the plan, and bring your questions.<\/p>\n
