{"id":890,"date":"2014-09-15T02:02:11","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T06:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/?page_id=890"},"modified":"2014-09-15T17:16:23","modified_gmt":"2014-09-15T21:16:23","slug":"safer-greener-streets-fair","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/safer-greener-streets-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Safer Greener Streets Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/SGSF.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-802 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/SGSF.jpg\" alt=\"SGSF\" width=\"199\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a>Make Queens Safer&#8217;s <strong>Safer Greener Streets Fair<\/strong>\u00a0was held on September 13, 2014 at Staunton Field and the 78th Street Play Street in Jackson Heights, Queens<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The program was anchored by one of New York City&#8217;s popular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikenewyork.org\/learn\/kids\/bike-bonanza\/\">Bike Bonanzas<\/a>, which featured:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bike helmet giveaway, courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/dot\/html\/about\/safety-education.shtml\">NYCDOT,<\/a>\u00a0which fitted and gave away 723\u00a0helmets to adults and children<\/li>\n<li>A kids&#8217; bike swap, organized\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.recycleabicycle.org\">Recycle-A-Bicycle<\/a>, and<\/li>\n<li>Learn to ride lessons,\u00a0led by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikenewyork.org\">Bike New York<\/a>\u00a0with help from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citibikenyc.com\/\">Citibike<\/a>\u00a0and others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the fair included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Free bike repair, courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeyard.org\/\">Bike Yard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bicycle_rodeo\">Bicycle Rodeo<\/a>\u00a0to teach beginning cyclists basic safety skills for biking in traffic, organized by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/hhc\/ehc\/html\/home\/home.shtml\">Elmhurst Hospital Center<\/a>\u00a0and assisted by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.younggovernors.org\/\">Young Governors<\/a>\u00a0and other partners<\/li>\n<li>A <a title=\"Kid Engineers Traffic Study\" href=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/kid-engineers-traffic-study\/\">Kid Engineers Traffic Study<\/a> to document traffic safety risks in the\u00a0neighborhood, with the <a href=\"http:\/\/transalt.org\/getinvolved\/neighborhood\/queens\">Transportation Alternatives Queens Committee<\/a>, P.S. 280 staff,\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/d25\/html\/members\/home.shtml\">Councilmember Danny Dromm<\/a>. \u00a0 <a title=\"Kid Engineers Traffic Study\" href=\"https:\/\/makequeenssafer.org\/home\/kid-engineers-traffic-study\/\"><strong>We&#8217;ve posted the findings of this study here<\/strong>.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A Mini-Film Festival about street safety and street transformation initiatives in Queens and around the world, featuring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetfilms.org\/\">Streetfilms<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to learn\u00a0about community groups involved in making our streets safer, greener and more livable, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jhbg.org\/\">Jackson Heights Beautification Group<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.girlscoutsnyc.org\/\">Girl Scouts of Greater New York<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/transalt.org\/issues\/bike\/ambassadors\">Transportation Alternatives&#8217;
